not just a barn…

dsc_00597

Knoll, Saarinen and George Nelson are found sleek, clean and basking in sunlight.   Mid century luxury discovered in an unassuming barn on a quiet lane in Sebastapol.

My friends own Allyn Scura Eyewear.   They sell the coolest collection of vintage eyeglasses around.  They’re not only passionate about cateyes, they’ve got an eye for some of the most collectible modern furnishings from the 50’s and 60’s as well.   We got to crash at their place on a recent road trip to northern California.  Allyn is a FAB hostess!  (and ya, there’s a swing in the family room!)

killer rattan

p91500161It was suburbia’s answer to a tropical get-a-way!  Tiki galore!  Reed furniture was sustainable before we started using that word.  And when a 60 year old set is still rockin a living room, it becomes timeless.  Ahhh, that’s what I love about old furniture.

vintage butterfly

dsc_01147 I guess you could say I’m a vintage butterfly.  I go where my eye takes me and I don’t follow any rules.   I started raiding my Grandma’s basement closets when I was in highschool.  Thrift shops were my next discovery and vintage dresses and sweaters were my thing.  When I got my first apartment, Victorian, turn of the century antique pieces were the big deal.  Second hand stores were filled with furniture from the 40’s -60’s ‘cuz nobody wanted it.  I bought it, that’s what I could afford.  My next love came one day when I walked into the Goodwill and saw a sign that said “50% off all bric-a-brac”.  Oh man!   Treasure galore!  I was in heaven and my hobby was on fire!  From my closet to my house it’s a big mish mash of FAB old stuff.  It’s my passion…it borders on obsession but I don’t mind.  I  really am crazy about it!

 Take a peek!  Get inspired!
